Fourteen Venice educators to receive WaVe Awards from Venice Chamber of Commerce
WHO: The Venice Chamber of Commerce Education Committee will host the 2nd Annual WaVe Awards to honor educators.
WHAT: The Venice Chamber of Commerce acknowledges how important educators are to the vitality of communities. Teachers are nominated and selected by their peers for excellence and recognized at an Awards dinner, where they are introduced by their Principal or a fellow teacher and presented with a plaque and a gift bagwith donations from local sponsoring businesses.
WHERE: The 2nd Annual WaVe Awards will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 7 at Lilly’s French Café, 1031 Abbot Kinney Boulevard Venice 90291. Tickets are $40 and include dinner and one drink.
The following Venice schools will fete their educators: A Window Between Worlds, Rose Curtis; Beethoven Elementary School, Carolyn Mills; Boys & Girls Club of Venice, Michelle Shegda; Broadway Elementary (Mandarin Immersion Program) Rae Cullen; Coeur d’Alene Elementary School, Barbara Elson; Ecole Claire Fontaine, Maira Marroquin; Inside Out Community Arts, Camille Ameen; Mark Twain Middle School, Jill Usui-Datwayler; Neighborhood Youth Association, Abigail Vibiano; Venice Skills Center, Robert Yorgason; Walgrove Elementary School, Ms. Sarabanda; Westminster Elementary School, Sheila Bouffard; Venice High School, Courtney Lockwood and Westside Global Awareness Magnet, Jeff Beard.
WHY: Teaching is an immensely satisfying profession that must be recognized. Many of us can point to a handful of educators who made a substantial impact on our lives; they were there for “us” without satisfactory compensation or recognition.
Teachers continue to inspire, support and nurture our children’s academic, social, and emotional growth. They understand our children will be the innovators, policy makers and educators of the 21st century. They are fully vested, it is a pleasure to honor them.
As citizens of the world, when we’re enthusiastic and share the pleasures and joys of learning with children, our collective ability to change the world for the better is within our reach, said Joelle Dumas, Venice Education Committee President.
ABOUT: The WaVe Awards were launched in 2011 by the Venice Chamber of Commerce Education Committee to acknowledge the enormous contribution teachers make everyday to the children of Venice and the surrounding areas.
The inaugural WaVe Awards celebrated teachers for “Creative Engagement”. In 2012, they “Inspire to Achieve”!
